Root Chakra

As a Reiki Master I have come to appreciate the importance of Chakras and chakra energy and how it affects our health and well -being.
Chakras are energy points in the body that affect not just the glands and organs , but can affect the way our emotional and spiritual energy. There are 7 main ones.
Let’s look at Chakra #1: The Root Chakra. Its location is at the very bottom of the torso in the area known as the perineum. This is the point between the anus and the sex organs. Its color is red. When I give a full Tarot meditation reading for someone, I always ask them their favorite color. This gives me an idea on what chakra they are intuitively attached to or deal with the most. The gemstone connected to this chakra are bloodstone, agate, ruby , and sometimes hematite. Though this is a black stone, it is excellent for cleansing as the Root chakra deals in blood and cell production.
Speaking of the physical, the Root Chakra deals in not just the blood and blood cell production, but in bone, teeth, hair, the lower gastro system like colon, rectum and anus as well as the adrenals and prostate .
( The Adrenals are glands that sit on top of the kidneys. They make hormones. One is cortical, which is used by the body for stress response , metabolism of proteins, carbs and fats and manages blood pressure. Aldosterone manages the amount of salt vs. water in the system.)
Root’s Element is EARTH and this emotionally and spiritually means that this Chakra finds its connection to the Earth. It is connected to survival, security, achieving, Its energy makes things happen and there is a lot of energy to bringing about material security . Its mantra is “ I have” and one can use that in affirmations such as “ I have security ’ ’ I have a firmly rooted feeling of life. “ “ I have unshakeable trust in my abilities “. Use this in your mediations and Prayers. ( remember the Law of attraction- pray as though you have received it already) and see what abounds.
May Reiki light, love and peace flow to you and yours

Celebrating Vesak

Celebrating Vesak

Greetings, my brothers and sisters.
A lot of you observe , celebrate , note or nod your head in knowing when it comes to Zen Buddhist practices or traditions. So , let us embrace our Buddhist brothers and sisters with an acknowledgement of VESAK. This year we celebrate it on May 20th , the first day of the new moon in the 2nd month of their calendar year. Known as “ Buddha’s Birthday”, this day celebrates Buddha’s birth, Enlightenment, and passing. So important was this holiday , as Thich Nhat Hanh says in his book, LIVING BUDDHA LIVING CHRIST , that, when the French controlled government of Vietnam sought to end Vesak ( thus ending Buddhism and establishing Christianity once and for all ) , a revolt among the people took place , toppling the government. The rest is history.
Ways to observe Vesak are simple and elegant.
Meditate. Embrace all sentient beings making this a Meta ( all loving) practice. This means to dedicate your affirmations to love all sentient beings in the world.
Honoring the 5 PRECEPTS. These are 5 ideals to live one’s life mindfully. Not to steal, not to engage in sexual misconduct, not to gossip or say hurtful things, not to engage in unmindful consumption of chemicals, pornography, violence and the like, and ( most importantly ) not to kill.
This last one means more then not embracing violence. This includes not eating meat. so FOR ONE DAY be a vegetarian. IT WON”T KILL YOU and it will save a planet. JUST ONE DAY embrace all sentient beings in a positive , loving way.
Who knows, perhaps an understanding of Buddha nature will arise and some day our grandchildren will be celebrating Bob Day or Dave Day or Jane Day ( yeah, I know, as long as it isn’t Doris Day). You get my drift.

The Memorial Day

Summer unofficially starts on May 26th. We begin our vacations, kids are getting done with classes and we look forward to those “ lazy, crazy, hazy days of summer“. Isn’t it interesting that a ‘holiday’ that has become a traditional beginning of summer is, in fact, a time of remembering our Honored Military veterans and Honored Military Dead.
This began after the Civil War when the North wanted to remember the fallen Union heroes. The South picked up the cue and eventually it spread through out the US. After WWI , it included all heroes in all wars or military actions. At that time, Memorial Day ( or Decoration Day as it was at first recognized) was on May 30th. This was until the 1970’s when Pres. Nixon signed the holiday bill moving that holiday to the last Monday in May. This was to give us the 3 day weekend. It was also about that time the Memorial Day came to be observed to honor , not just the fallen, but the living service men and women veterans.
This year it falls on the 26th. In Tarot numerology , 2+6= 8 and this is the Strength card., In the Morgan- Greer Tarot this is represented by a picture of a maiden gently but firmly opening the mouth of a struggling but subdued lion . When you think of 8 it is a powerful number. It is twice 4 ( constancy) which, in turn is twice 2 ( balance of yin/yang; harmony) 8, therefore is the heartfelt longing for balance of Heaven and Earth, the Soul and the material world. How do you find that balance ? How do you develop an understanding of balancing your spirituality with making a living , rasing the kids and paying the mortgage? To achieve this one must work steady and trust that the Universe is “unfolding exactly as it should” to quote the Desiderata. I know a bunch of you JUST rolled your eyes. That ’s ok. You have that right. That is what this country is all about. I am not sure if it was Voltaire who said something like
‘I may not believe in what you say, but I will fight to the death for your right to say it “ ( paraphrasing , of course) but no country on Earth symbolizes that more then the US.
Everyone will suffer a loss . IF you live among living things on the planet, it is inevitable. Many never come to the understanding that grief’s purpose is to get us to that point of understanding, harmony and balance. This is Strength.
No matter what your opinion of the wars around us, we still owe a debt to the men and women who showed us a strength, too. Take time in your meditations to consider that. Take time in your planning and barbequing to appreciate that harmony and balance that your life has in this country. Then go out and enjoy the picnic.. They would have wanted it that way.

Sorry I meant

MEDITATION not Mediation.. though that is ok, too

I'mmmm BACKKKKKK

Ok, bad me, I've been gone for a while. i will be better, since i have done some investigating of a few haunted sites and worked on my Tarot. Have you noticed that we have are passing thru the time of the New Moon? This is when the yin or female energies are high. This is the time to best cultivate those energies of being retired, quiet and meditative. Heaven knows we need to pull back from the rush and over much time in our lives. Mediation is the answer to that question of how can I just get a hold of my self. this is esp helpful if you have trouble sleeping. Get away from the computer ( except now) and BREATHE with your lower belly out on the inhale. Bring your belly IN on the exhale. Now you may feel light headed at times when you do this and this is because your brain is getting oxygen. Don;t bounce up from your seated position at first. Get up slowly keeping your head above your heart.
Also, a word about energies. When I write of yin( female) energies, I am not talking about sex, as most of you know. I am speaking of those Universal energies we all have with in us and we all need to nurture. One can be TOO male (yang) or too female (yin) . As the Chinese and the American Indians know, too much of one or the other, or a block of the energies will result in dis-ease. This leads to sickness. Mediation and breathing is a great way to bring one in tune with the energies and the Universe.
